Lucas Steadman has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a local cat with a high-powered BB gun. This troubling news comes straight from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and has sparked an important conversation about animal welfare here on the Space Coast.
According to Sheriff Wayne Ivey, the shooting took place on May 11. It appears the incident stemmed from a conflict between Steadman’s cat and the victim feline, which lived at the same location. In a heartfelt message posted on the sheriff’s Facebook page, Ivey emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, “If you harm an animal in Brevard County, your butt’s going straight to jail.” Indeed, Steadman is now facing charges and has had his bond set at $50,000, where he’ll be spending time at what Sheriff Ivey affectionately calls “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge”—Brevard County Jail.
