Hometown Hero: Officer Chris Hattaway Named Florida’s School-Related Employee of the Year
We’re proud to share some exciting news here on the Space Coast! Rockledge is buzzing with pride as Officer Chris Hattaway has just been named the 2026 Florida School-Related Employee of the Year. For those of us who’ve witnessed his dedication and commitment firsthand, this recognition feels like a well-deserved spotlight on one of our very own. After being honored as Brevard Public Schools Employee of the Year just last fall, Officer Hattaway has once again soared to new heights, representing our community at the state level.
The announcement took place in a delightful surprise ceremony at Rockledge High School, highlighting a sense of unity among local leaders, police officials, and students who all share a deep respect for Hattaway. Brevard County School Board Member Katye Campbell didn’t hold back in her celebration, expressing her congratulations online—because great achievements deserve to be shared!
A true Raider at heart, Officer Hattaway isn’t just putting in the hours; he’s pouring his heart into creating an environment where students feel safe, supported, and motivated. With 13 years of law enforcement experience backing him, he knows more than just how to uphold safety standards. He has launched lunchtime counseling initiatives and holiday gift drives that have positively impacted countless students and families right here in Rockledge. His commitment to building meaningful relationships with the students makes a world of difference.
Ranking among the best in Florida is no small feat, especially considering the variety of support roles recognized in this program—from bus drivers to food service staff. Hattaway’s achievement serves as a testament to the exemplary service he provides as a school resource officer. His previous accolades, including the City of Rockledge’s Safety Employee of the Year and the Outstanding Young Floridian Award for Public Safety, further cement his reputation as a local hero.
This honor truly reflects the essence of our community spirit! From his days as a Rockledge student to now serving the very same hallways, Hattaway’s journey is a story of dedication and pride. It’s a reminder that in Brevard County, we uplift one another and celebrate those who go above and beyond for our youth.
