Florida man killed in I-95 crash; Woman arrested for DUI with girl, 4, in vehicle, FHP says

Tragic Accident on I-95 Claims Life of Young Driver

It’s never a pleasant morning when news travels across the Space Coast of a fatal accident, especially one so close to home. Early Monday, a tragic incident on I-95 near Rockledge has left our community reeling. A 24-year-old Rockledge man lost his life when he crashed his 2018 Infiniti Q50 into a guardrail just south of State Road 528. As residents of Brevard County, we understand how quickly the roads can change—one moment, you’re safely navigating home, and the next, everything can take a shocking turn.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the driver veered off the roadway around mile marker 204. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a heart-wrenching loss for his family and friends. In a community like ours, where connections run deep, this loss echoes far beyond the immediate tragedy.

The crash also involved another vehicle that was struck by debris from the accident, but thankfully, no one in that vehicle was injured. However, the driver of that car, 49-year-old Cynthia Willis from Palm Coast, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. What makes this even more concerning is that she had a 4-year-old girl in the car with her at the time. It’s a chilling reminder that we must all prioritize safety, especially when driving with young ones.

As we process this news, it serves as a grave reminder of the responsibilities we carry as drivers. The highways that link our beautiful Space Coast communities should be navigated with care and attention. Our heart goes out to all involved, especially the young man’s family, who are left to grapple with this sudden loss.

Let’s keep the conversation going about road safety, Brevard. We all have a role to play in keeping our highways safe, and sometimes a little vigilance can go a long way. What do you think, Space Coast? Drop your thoughts below.
