What to Do If You Spot Rocket Debris on Space Coast Beaches
Hey, Space Coast! With the recent explosion of Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket, there’s a possibility that debris could wash ashore along our beautiful Brevard County beaches in the coming days or even weeks. While we love our rockets here and cherish every launch, the safety of our community comes first. So, if you’re out enjoying the sun and sand at Playalinda Beach or Cocoa Beach, be aware of what to do if you stumble upon any debris.
First and foremost, if you see any suspicious objects that look like they might be remnants of a rocket, **do not touch it!** These pieces can be hazardous, and coming into contact with them can pose serious health risks. Your safety is the top priority, so resist the temptation to pick up a piece of “space history.” Remember, curiosity is great, but safety is key!
Next, make sure to report the location of the debris immediately. You can contact Blue Origin’s Wreckage Management Hotline at (321) 222-4355. Alternatively, if it’s easier, just shoot them an email at missionrecovery@blueorigin.com. By doing this, you help the authorities manage the situation effectively and ensure that experts can assess and handle the debris safely.
Lastly, use your best judgment. While some locals might be excited for the chance to claim a piece of the launch, we urge everyone to keep their distance. Our beautiful Space Coast is well known for its natural wonders, so let’s keep it that way. Enjoy the view, but let the pros handle any unusual finds!
We’re lucky to live in a place where the cosmos meet the coastline, but safety should always come first. Keep your eyes peeled for those stunning rocket launches but stay cautious if you see anything unusual that could be tied to them. What do you think, Space Coast? Drop your thoughts below.
