Wild Weekend on the Roads: Drivers Clocked at Over 100 MPH in Brevard County
If you’ve ever driven on I-95, you know that our bustling Space Coast attracts visitors from all around. Unfortunately, it also brings some drivers who might think they’re on a racetrack instead of our highways. Over the weekend, Brevard County deputies had a busy time as they dealt with two out-of-town drivers who really pushed the pedal to the metal!
In the early hours of Saturday, Tikierra Jerry from Darlington, South Carolina, was stopped for speeding at a jaw-dropping 111 mph upon entering our lovely county. Goodness! When deputies approached, she handed over a passport to Deputy McLaughlin, explaining that her driver’s license had been left back home. However, it turned out she had it tucked away in her front pocket—and the license was actually suspended. In a twist of irony, Jerry claimed she was rushing to catch a cruise at the port. Unfortunately, her speedy adventure landed her facing serious charges as a “super speeder” along with driving with a suspended license.
Just a few hours later, there was a similar situation involving Jorge Gonzalez from Orlando, who decided to showcase his driving skills by hitting 120 mph on I-95 near Wickham Road. While trying to weave between cars, he unwittingly caught the attention of Corporal Michael Tarr, who was in position to initiate a traffic stop. With the help of Deputy McLaughlin, Gonzalez was soon pulled over, adding another alarming story to Brevard’s roadways.
Deputies are reminding us all that our local highways are not speedways, and reckless driving compromises safety for everyone. Thanks to the swift actions of Deputy McLaughlin and Corporal Tarr, these speedsters were taken off the road before causing harm. It’s a good reminder to keep safety at the forefront, especially as we welcome more visitors to our beautiful Space Coast.
As we continue to enjoy the sunshine and all our local attractions, let’s make sure we drive responsibly. What do you think, Space Coast? Drop your thoughts below.
