It all unfolded when West Melbourne police pulled over a woman. As officers were interviewing her, Derek Zachary Schaufus made an unexpected entrance, claiming to be her lawyer. Dressed sharply in a suit and speaking with bravado, Schaufus attempted to negotiate with the officers on her behalf. Authorities quickly became suspicious, and, as they investigated further, they discovered he wasn’t a licensed attorney in Florida—a major red flag that led to his arrest.
