Cocoa Beach Surfing Santas: Festive Holiday Wave Riders Christmas Eve Event

Cocoa Beach’s Famous Surfing Santas Set to Hit the Waves On Christmas Eve Morning

Surfing Santas Return to Cocoa Beach for Festive Christmas Eve Tradition

Hundreds of Santa-clad surfers will hit the waves at Cocoa Beach’s annual Surfing Santas event on Christmas Eve morning. The free celebration runs from 8 AM to noon at 2 Minutemen Causeway Beach.

What began in 2009 with founder George Trosset surfing in a Santa suit alongside his costumed family has evolved into a major holiday attraction, drawing thousands of spectators and setting records. In 2018, 648 Surfing Santas participated, a number organizers hope to surpass this year.

Anyone can join by bringing a surfboard and wearing a festive holiday costume. The event takes place near Coconuts on the Beach, where Minutemen Causeway meets N. Atlantic Avenue (A1A). Ample parking and dining options will be available.

Since 2013, Surfing Santas has raised over $90,000 for local charities Grind for Life, a cancer support organization, and the Florida Surf Museum through donations and T-shirt sales.

The unique celebration has become a hallmark of Florida’s Space Coast, combining holiday cheer with the region’s surfing culture. As Trosset notes, “There’s no better place for St. Nick to hang loose before his busiest night of the year.”
