Stay Weather Aware, Space Coast: Tornado Watch Issued, Now Expired
Hey Space Coast neighbors! As many of you may have noticed, our local weather has taken a wild turn. A tornado watch was initially issued for parts of Central Florida, including Brevard County, as a strong front moved through the region. Thankfully, that watch has now expired, but let’s do a quick recap of what happened and what you can expect moving forward.
Earlier today, Orlando International Airport (MCO) felt the impact of these stormy conditions, announcing a ground stop that caused several delays affecting flights coming in and out of the area. For those of us planning to travel or simply commuting around town, it’s always a great idea to check directly with airlines or look for updates on travel apps. Around midday, the winds picked up, and we even saw some heavy rain in Orange County, along with gusts hitting up to 60 mph and nickel-sized hail. Talk about a bumpy ride!
Our local forecasts had declared a Severe Weather Warning Day, signaling conditions that could pose a danger to life or property. Thankfully, that alert has also expired, but a wind advisory for Brevard and surrounding counties has also been lifted. While we’ve skirted serious weather this round, it’s still important to stay informed and prepared for any pop-up storms, especially during this unpredictable season.
Looking ahead, tomorrow gives us a breather as temperatures are set to drop slightly with just a few chances of showers in the morning. By the afternoon, we should see drier conditions move in, perfect for enjoying our beautiful Space Coast scenery. That’s definitely a silver lining!
