Savoring the Sea: Florida Red Snapper with Charred Avocado Recipe

There’s something magical about fresh seafood in Florida. As I strolled through the Melbourne Farmers Market last weekend, the vibrant red snapper caught my eye, and I knew exactly what I’d be making for dinner. If you’re looking for a dish that screams “Florida living,” this Red Snapper with Charred Avocado recipe is it!

One of the greatest joys of living in Brevard County is our year-round access to incredible seafood and produce. While the rest of the country might be shoveling snow, we’re grilling fresh-caught fish on the patio. Let’s take advantage of this Florida blessing!

Why Florida Red Snapper Deserves a Spot on Your Table

Red snapper isn’t just beautiful with its rosy hue – it’s a Florida treasure. The firm, slightly sweet white flesh cooks perfectly and pairs wonderfully with bold flavors. Plus, it’s packed with protein and omega-3 fatty acids.

When you choose Fresh From Florida seafood, you’re not just getting superior taste – you’re supporting local fishermen and sustainable practices that keep our waters thriving for future generations.

The Perfect Florida Red Snapper and Charred Avocado Recipe

This recipe brings together the bounty of Florida’s waters and land. The charred avocado adds a smoky contrast to the delicate fish, creating a dish that’s both sophisticated and simple.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 Florida red snapper fillets, skin on
  • 2 ripe Florida avocados, halved and pitted
  • 2 limes, one juiced and one cut into wedges for serving
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Florida honey
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together lime juice, 2 tablespoons olive oil, garlic, honey, and a pinch of salt and pepper to create a marinade.
  3. Pat the snapper fillets dry and place in a shallow dish. Pour half the marinade over the fish, turning to coat. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Brush the cut sides of the avocados with remaining olive oil and season with salt.
  5. Grill the snapper, skin side down first, for about 4 minutes. Flip carefully and cook for another 2-3 minutes until fish is opaque and flakes easily.
  6. Place avocado halves cut-side down on the grill for about 2 minutes until grill marks appear.
  7. Serve the snapper with charred avocado halves, drizzle with remaining marinade, and garnish with cilantro, red pepper flakes, and lime wedges.
