Local Drama Unfolds with Shooting in Deltona

It’s a wild world out there, and sometimes it spills into our own backyard. Just a short drive from Brevard County, Deltona is making headlines after a late-night incident that’s left many scratching their heads. Domestic disputes turning into gunfire may seem reserved for the big cities, but they can happen anywhere, even on our own Space Coast.

The chaos began late Tuesday night around 11:50 p.m. when a woman drove to Hemingway Drive for a face-to-face conversation after a heated argument on Facebook. What should’ve been a simple chat quickly escalated into a dangerous situation. Instead of a peaceful resolution, the victim encountered two individuals in a driveway, both brandishing handguns. Without a single word exchanged, the confrontation turned deadly serious as both suspects fired at her vehicle, shattering her rear window and leaving her with a punctured tire.

After hours of tension, local deputies initiated announcements urging the suspects to surrender, ultimately leading to the arrest of 29-year-old Ines Jonjic, her children, and a 15-year-old named Elijah Woodberry around 5:30 a.m. The officers found multiple shell casings in the garage, and Jonjic confessed to opening fire. Her firearm was discovered in her bedroom, but the mystery deepened as Woodberry didn’t admit to firing, and authorities couldn’t locate a second weapon.

Both Jonjic and Woodberry were charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, with Woodberry facing additional serious charges like possession of a firearm by a delinquent and drug trafficking. Authorities reportedly found marijuana and other drugs stashed in a backpack during their investigation, unveiling a troubling side to this incident. Jonjic faces her own steep list of charges, including possession of controlled substances near a park.

This unsettling story serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges in our communities. While Brevard County generally has its quiet corners, incidents like these remind us all of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. As neighbors, we need to keep our eyes open and support one another. It might be a good time to check in with loved ones and encourage healthy communication—whether it’s online or face-to-face.
