Tragedy Strikes the Space Coast: Local Woman Killed by Neighbor’s Dogs
It’s difficult to believe that a peaceful stroll can suddenly turn dangerous, especially in our tight-knit Brevard County community. Sadly, residents along Blue Bonnet Drive are dealing with the aftermath of a heartbreaking tragedy. Jodi Cowan, a new neighbor who had only been in the area for two weeks, lost her life after a brutal dog attack. The two pit bulls involved—Max and Mako—had reportedly been causing concern for quite some time, leaving many to wonder how it could come to this.
Following the attack in the early hours of May 19, Cowan was found in a horrific situation with her small dog in her arms, trying desperately to escape the aggressive animals. Her partner, Donnell Smith, rushed to her aid, even using a knife to fend off the dogs while waiting for emergency help. It’s unnerving to know that this incident unfolded just moments from where many of us walk our own pets each day. The owner of the dogs, Linda Cutler, has since been arrested, and the dogs have been taken into custody by the Brevard County Animal Services. Reports indicate that Cutler had been cited multiple times for allowing her dogs to escape and was aware of their prior aggressive behavior. It’s shocking to think that despite concerns raised by neighbors, these dogs were allowed to roam freely, putting residents at risk.
